Junior Bridgeman, a UofL basketball legend and prominent businessman, dedicated more than a decade to the NBA before becoming one of Louisville's most influential business leaders and philanthropists.
Born in East Chicago, Indiana, Bridgeman played for the University of Louisville from 1972 to 1975, helping his team reach two Final Fours under the legendary coach Denny Crum. He then enjoyed a successful NBA career, primarily with the Milwaukee Bucks, along with a brief stint with the LA Clippers.
While still playing in the NBA, Bridgeman began investing in Wendy’s restaurants, eventually building a fast-food empire through Bridgeman Foods Inc., which owned over 450 locations before he sold most of them in 2016. His business ventures expanded into Coca-Cola bottling, Ebony and Jet magazines, and co-ownership of the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
In 2023, Bridgeman became a minority owner of his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks. His financial success earned him a spot on Forbes' list of billionaire athletes.
Beyond business, Bridgeman was deeply involved in education and community service, serving on the boards of trustees for UofL and Simmons College.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, and their three children: Eden, Justin, and Ryan.
